How BIM is Transforming Facade Engineering in 2025

Automated Documentation
Once the model is built, shop drawings, elevations, sections, and schedules can be generated automatically. Changes to the model propagate through all documentation instantly, eliminating the risk of outdated drawings reaching the fabrication shop.
Quantity Take-offs and Cost Control
BIM models contain accurate quantity information. Glass area, aluminium extrusion lengths, gasket runs, and fastener counts can be extracted directly from the model, improving estimation accuracy and reducing material waste.
The Skills Gap
Despite these advantages, the industry faces a shortage of facade engineers who are proficient in BIM workflows. Companies are actively seeking professionals who combine facade technical knowledge with strong BIM software skills.
